Written in memory of my cousin, who passed away 3 years ago from drowning. Performed at Sayaw Showcase 2006.
this river empties into the ocean of my consciousness
where we keep on swimming, struggling to stay afloat
i navigate down the slope of my mother's cheeks
as tears fall down from her eyes
remembering the stories of our little sirena
with bright eyes and agile feet
she swims
her spirit glides across the currents
of the river into the ocean of my reality
where i either float or sink
suspended in the mid water of my consciousness
she breathes water into my lungs
injecting her memories into my skin
and i drink this water in her memory
so there are no more tears to spill.
in peace, little sister
it's been almost 2 years...
