i wish
that you can see the world in my eyes
the way my heart beats when i like a boy
or the way i smile when i hear my favorite song
it seems that we are on different pages
all the time
you deal with a life that's not mine
as do i
will you forgive me when i say
that someday i won't need you anymore
but in my heart you'll always stay
in my mind as the first faces i ever saw
whose smile warms my heart to this very day

do you know
how much i want to make you proud
how much i can't say how much you mean to me
because i'm afraid that i won't stop crying
the way i do when i hold so much gratitude
and love the way i do to you
will you ever know that sometimes
i keep a picture of you under my pillow
just so i know you're here with me
even when you're thousands of miles away

someday
when i grow up i'll appreciate all the things
you have done for me
but for now i hope that you can give me
the time to grow up on my own
become a better person
who eventually learns from her own mistakes
without you always holding my hand
please understand that we are separate people
with different lives from one another
but don't forsake the fact
that even if we differ we still are
flesh and blood
heart to heart
by all means know that i'll always be a part of you
whereever i am
no matter what i do with my life
i'll always be your daughter with a crooked smile
